Description:

Geoffrey Fryer in his office in the Windermere Laboratory of the Freshwater Biological Association, Ferry House, Far Sawry, Ambleside, Cumbria, UK. At the time, he was correcting the proofs of his classic book with T.D. Iles, The Cichlid Fishes of the Great Lakes of Africa. Fryer had named 6 new cichlid species in 1956-57, but was also an active carcinologist and had already shifted his primary research focus to freshwater Crustacea by 1960. Lists of the taxa he has authored, and a partial bibliography, are available at http://species.wikimedia.org/wiki/Geoffrey_Fryer. Photo by M.K. Oliver (6 September 1971).
